I recently “joined” the writers community on Instagram and Twitter. Since I’m really committing to getting my novel finished and published, I figured I might as well surround myself with others that are on the same journey as myself!
The first time I heard of NaNoWriMo was last November. I totally would have joined had I not been 9 months pregnant and expecting my son that very same month.
From what I gather, NaNoWriMo has a set goal of 50,000 words. On the other hand, CampNaNo allows you to set your own personal goal. So, you can come up with something feasible for you to do.
You join a Camp of other writers. You can participate in writing activities together. There’s a message board where everyone shares their struggles, successes, and basically have writing talk.
It’s a great way to hold yourself accountable and have a support system behind you on your journey!
My CampNaNo Challange
For my challenge, my goal is to write 30,000 words during the month of April.
I’ve outlined my goal by week, here’s what I need to complete (running totals):
April 7th – 7,000
April 14th – 14,000
April 21st – 21,000
April 28th – 28,000
April 30th – 30,000
I mean, I’m not a huge numerology person, but I love how conveniently these goals worked out for me!
Since April conveniently began on a Sunday, I’m considering my weeks to be Sun-Sat. So, by the end of the week (Saturday), I need to reach my goal.
At the start of each week, I evaluate my schedule and plan out which nights I will be writing and how many words I will write each night.
Now, I’ve already gone through week one. I have to say, I’m really proud of myself! Each day that I said I’d sit and write, I did it. No excuses. More on that in a bit…
Planning out each week allows me to not get too ahead of myself and lets me make my own schedule that will work for me and my life. Most of the time, it consists of me sitting in my bed at 9pm and banging out my word count. That’s just what I have to do!
Progress So Far
Week One – 5,492
Needless to say, I did not meet my goal for the first week. I’m not getting too hard on myself! I did pretty well all things considered! On Saturday night, I was slated to write about 3,000 words. I wrote about half of that and just got stuck.
In my opinion, trying to force it when I just didn’t have the inspiration was not worth it. So, I stopped.
Now, my goal is to makeup those 1508 words during week 2. I can do this!
All month long, I’ll be posting weekly updates on my progress. So be on the lookout! And take a look at my instagram for daily updates!
